COLFUTURO Yearbook Selection 2026
Since 1991, when Ana Milena Muñoz de Gaviria, together with a group of visionary business leaders, founded COLFUTURO, the Foundation has endeavor to support Colombian professionals with academic excellence in pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees at the world’s leading universities, with the aim of strengthening the country’s development. Throughout its history, COLFUTURO has achieved significant milestones that have enabled us to impact more than 18,000 beneficiaries through funding commitments totaling US$658 million. Some of the most notable achievements include: • The first contribution from the private and public sectors in 1992. • The signing of the first cooperation agreement between the Ministry of National Education, ICETEX, and COLFUTURO in 2007. • A second round of contributions from the private sector in 2009. • The CONPES resolution signed to support the program’s growth in 2015 and the signing of a new agreement with Colciencias in 2017, covering the 2017– 2025 period, among others. These joint efforts by the public and private sectors have made it possible to significantly increase the number of people benefiting from COLFUTURO, rising from 46 professionals supported in 1992 to 2,028 in 2024—the highest figure in the Foundation’s history. In 2026, we reaffirmed our commitment to higher education and COLFUTURO’s mission: to promote, guide, and fund Colombian professionals of academic excellence so they can pursue graduate studies at the world’s leading universities, thereby generating better human capital to drive the country’s development. Thus, this year we selected 1,000 professionals from among 3,083 applicants from the country’s six regions. This new cohort represents an investment of nearly US$50 million . We congratulate the selected students, who succeeded in a highly competitive process and were chosen through a rigorous and anonymous evaluation based on objective criteria of excellence. COLFUTURO’s selection process is based on the applicants’ academic performance and the quality of the programs they have chosen, thus ensuring the transparency, impartiality, and soundness of the process. Today, more than three decades after our founding, we remain convinced that investing in Colombian talent is one of the most transformative decisions for the country. The knowledge, leadership, and experience of these professionals contribute to strengthening the institutions, organizations, and communities that they impact. Our commitment is to preserve and expand this legacy so that more Colombians have access opportunities for high-quality education to continue contributing to the country’s future.
